- Ceres/Aurora Pop-Up Ads
These new pop-up ads are installed through a variety of free software products, drive-by downloads and are often bundled in other installations via ActiveX controls or security flaws. These pop-up ads are not blocked by traditional ad blockers or spyware removers.
- Windows Messenger Service Pop-Ups
These ads appear out of nowhere, and are entitled "Messenger Service." You can turn off your messaging services on Windows NT, 2000 and XP. To learn how, click here. Or, you can use Pop-Up Scanner to close these windows for you as fast as they open!
- PurityScan Ad Server
PurityScan is installed on computers when the user visits www.purityscan.com and initiates the "FREE Scan" to scan your computer for potentially offensive material. In reality, the product installs its own pop-up ad serving software on your computer that will display pop-up ads when you surf the Web. The product does NOT provide a standard uninstall in the Control Panel and places itself inside your startup group so it starts every time you start your computer!
- NetSearch/Intelligent Explorer
The NetSearch/Intelligent Explorer toolbar is a popular search assistant that has versions available that can completely remove any other toolbars such as Pop-Up Stopper, Yahoo or Google that you may have installed in your browser. The program may also log each URL you visit.
